Spring time is Statement time

I love Spring because - even more so than New Years Eve - it feels like everything is starting over and coming to life again

Also, people are coming out (pun intended) a lot more, and seem more open to both life and other people. Yes, even those of us that are actually pretty introverted!

Let's Get One Thing Straight - Tank Top
An all-time favorite!

Also, I love seeing all the FABULOUS statement T-shirts out there, and yes, I do own quite a few of the ones I'm about to share with you.

Like the headline says: Spring time is Statement time... and my statements tend to revolve around LGBT puns and jokes.

There's the plain and simple:

Ahh yes, Galpals... ;-)
Just Gals Being Pals T-shirt

A little something for a gal's best friend:

And do remember to stay hydrated - maybe while matching your dog's bandana?

How about a little something for being out - or just being an ally - at work?

Ahh yes, Spring time is indeed here... and I'm all about being out and proud.

And honestly, I love the recognition in the eyes of other queer people (or just the acceptance from anyone really).

Have a great day,

Bob Harper comes out on The Biggest Loser

It's (finally!) official: Bob Harper is gay - and not just in the old happy meaning of the word, but in the wonderfully sexual and romantic way. Bob Harper is one of us! Welcome to the family, you awesome human being... and he's HOT too!

Now, this may not come as news to many of us LGBTQ people, but to the mainstream public this is quite a surprise for many people. And in recent years he got into cross fit, which means he's even more of a "real" man - though to those of us in the know, he's obviously just an insanely gorgeous bear.

When they look at him, they see a gorgeous manly man - which he certainly is - but they manage to ignore his wonderfully femine ways that I LOVE. Jillian was always the tough one, while he was the big ol' softie on "The Biggest Loser"... and now they're both out and proud almost 10 years after America got to know them on show.

But really, I'm just happy it's finally official even if many are surprised. Though I have a hard time understanding why... I mean, the man had a dog named after a fashion designer (Karl Lagerfeld) and was Ellen DeGeneres' personal trainer before "The Biggest Loser", which - at least combined - gives a pretty good indication.
I've always loved the show and BOTH Jillian and Bob. And as much as I was upset and disappointed with Jillian Michaels while she was in the closet, I was also thrilled and ready to cheer her on, when she came out in May 2012.

"The Biggest Loser" aka "The all-american gay boy next door and his lesbian partner get America in shape".
First Jillian and now Bob, which means I can FINALLY say “I told you so” to all the people, who were shipping them romantically for years. They are the greatest reality brotp though!

Jillian Michaels comes out in a beautiful way

Jillian Michaels has just become a mom... times two! Not only did she just adopt a little 2 year old girl, Lukensia, from Haiti, but her partner - Heidi Rhoades aka Mouse - also just gave birth to their son, Phoenix, on May 3 in Los Angeles.

Now, this isn't my interpretation of events, but Jillian Michaels' own account of recent events through an interview with People Magazine.

"In an exclusive at-home interview and photo shoot, she discusses the two-year journey that led her to her daughter and reveals an incredible twist of fate: Rhoades, 31, delivered their son the same week Michaels finally brought their daughter home."

Now, you all know I've previously been pretty irritated (and yes, maybe even a bit angry) by Jillian Michaels and the way she was out on one hand - via the "If I fall in love with a woman, that’s awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that’s awesome." statement in Ladies Home Journal back in January 2012 - but then on the other hand rejecting any kind of interview with AfterEllen in August 2011.

Of course, now it's pretty obvious that this was just about nine months ago, so maybe she was a bit stressed out and just plain nervous about too much stress and publicity on her personal life, while she and her partner was trying to get pregnant AND adopt.

Ever since I heard about her trying to adopt, I've been saying that she'd probably come out in a more public way as soon as everything was settled - just like Ricky Martin and Clay Aikin finally came out almost as soon as they became parents.

And isn't their daughter just the sweetest little girl.

In any case, I just want to say: Welcome to the family, Jillian! I never turned my back on you or gave up, but I sure did hold a grudge, so I'm feeling mighty fine now.

Have a very happy day everyone,
- GG

Welcome to the family

I've always thought she is all kinds of brilliant (and I love her tattoos), and even if I'll never really understand her relationship with Marilyn Manson (though I have nothing against him and find his androgyny fascinating), I can certainly admire the fact that he has been dating some very strong and wonderful women. However, I am also happy she has moved on - it didn't seem like the best match for her, since she is too big a personality to be reduced to "Marilyn Manson's girlfriend", which often happens because - of the two - he would always be the most extreme and different.

In any case... my point is this: I don't know that she was ever really "in", but now she is definitely "out", and even though it surprises only a few (I actually thought it was common knowledge and that she had spoken of this before), it's still great when someone officially and without a hint of drama comes out, so I'd still want to take this opportunity to officially welcome Evan Rachel Wood to the LGBT family.

We're very happy to have you!

Letter from a teen to her parents

Dear Mom and Dad!

It is with great regret and sorrow that I must write to you. I had to run away with my new lover because I wanted to avoid a scene with you. I know that you still consider me a child, but I'm 17 years old and I know how to take care of myself.

I have found true love with Larry and he's just so sweet. But I am aware that you would never approve of him because of his piercings, tattoos and leather clothes, and because he is so much older than me. In addition, he has five children, his youngest is my age. And it's not just infatuation. I'm pregnant with twins and Larry says we will be very happy together. He lives in a trailer out in the forest, and he has plenty of firewood to last the winter.

We share so many dreams for the future. He says he'll buy a lot of clothes and shoes for me. And Larry loves children. All his children have different mothers, but he says that with me it's different. Mom and Dad, I know we will be together forever. Larry says that I'm more woman than the older women, he's been with. How cool is that?

Larry has also opened my eyes to marijuana and how it's not actually harmful. He's a businessman and grows his own hemp and sells it to support his family. And Larry is clever with money! Also, he swaps some of the hemp with the neighbors for cocaine and ecstasy. The other occupants of the forest are also businessmen.

In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Larry can get better. But you don't have to worry about me, Mom and Dad, I am very happy! Someday I am sure we will come and visit you so that you can see your grandchildren and my stepchildren.

With love,
Your daughter Emily

P. S. Mom and Dad, none of the above is true. I'm at the movies with JJ and Naomi. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than finding out your daughter is gay. Which I am and it’s not a phase!

Hugs and kisses - call me when it's safe for me to come home and you're ready to talk about it.

****

I never had to write a letter like this, but I figure it would've been a somewhat different approach to it. Just might work. Anyway, now I got to write the letter anyway and share it with you all.
The names are all fictional - and the keen reader probably noticed the little tribute to Skins and Naomily, LOL. ;o)

Have a gay day!

I'm coming out...

I need to come out. No, not the gay part... that's pretty out there
already. ;o) In fact, I'm one of those people who - as far back as I can
remember - always said that the one thing I knew I wasn't was straight.
That's probably why I got this T-shirt the minute I saw it:

Yep, that sums me up. I knew that I liked women, but I was a bit more
uncertain about those of the male persuasion. So maybe I was bi, but I
certainly never thought I was (or could be or even wanted to be) straight. I did consider myself to be bisexual during my teens, while I was figuring it all out... But I only really found my heartbeat speeding up and slowing down at the same time for girls. And I'm a total Goldstar lesbian... LOL, so I wasn't really all THAT bi.

Anyway, turns out the only guys I like are A) Those that I love like friends and in a total brotherly way or B) The gay boys... cause I do love
them, and the only time during my bi-years that I got somewhat confused was by a wonderful gay guy. Probably because it was all very safe and he had a femine thing about him that I responded to.

In any case, turns out I'm just super gay and thrilled to bits about it. Oh yes, in these Pride times, I really am.

But this post has been a complete side-track from the REAL point - and as
always, I do have one... You just need to wait for it, when I think of other interesting and completely mindblowing things I need to share. Or maybe not all that mindblowing... But back to the point of this post: I need to come out... and admit to the world... I am... not... American. I'm European. Born here and have been a citizen for all my life.

I've not objected when a comment has assumed otherwise because Wifey and I both ADORE the US, have lived there for shorter or longer periods (shorter for me, a bit longer for Wifey) and we plan on living there eventually. Part time, anyway - I don't want to give up on Europe all together.

I love and protect the anonymity that this blog gives me, but at the same
time, I want to be honest. I'm out and proud in every other way, so why not this one? Though I'll keep the specifics to myself... let's just say that I'm from Western Europe and while I am bilingual - see, still a little bi - and working on becoming trilingual, when the Spanish kicks in, I'm not from an english speaking country. I speak two languages fluently, an additional three pretty well (used to be real good, but now I basically understand them while searching for words when I need to speak) and I want Spanish to be the third language that I speak fluently. And I appreciate all and any advice/help that any of you may be able to offer in regards to that.

Phew, that felt good to get out there... and now, I need a drink!

Citizen of the World,
- GG

P.S. If you suffered through this VERY long post with a sidetrack here and there, then we are now officially friends in the making, so drop me a line if you're so inclined. ;o)

Who is The Gay?

You may or may not have heard that another celebrity is coming out on May 5th. Oh yes, this year's Cinco de Mayo will be as gay as ever, but this time around it won't be because Ellen shows up on my TV wherever I am.

Anyway, just like everybody else, I've been wondering about who this new gay could be. And so, I have compiled a list of my top guesses. Okay okay, some of them might be wishful thinking, but still. Oh, and to be clear, by "wishful thinking" I don't necessarily mean they can't be gay, but just that they probably won't come out. Not this time around anyway.

By the way, I really hope it's going to come out a girl, but I have a sneaky suspicion it's going to be a boy. Eh, what can you do?! Let's get to it, shall we?

In the girls' corner we might see:

1. Queen Latifah - You know you want to... and we promise to treat you like royalty.

2. Michelle Rodriguez - You will never convince anyone that you're straight, and you've realized this and taken the bisexual road (yes, she might be bi, but you only ever see her with girls).

3. Kristen Stewart - Yes, I'm surprised I could wait until the third nominee, but here she is (oh, and there she is channeling our very own Shane of The L Word at Coachella recently, which AE called "More queer every year")

4. Jodie Foster - Hey, it could happen... and it's high time!

5. Nikki Reed - She's already pretty open, so I doubt she'd feel the need to do this whole official thing, but then again, it's the best way to get your own version out.

6. Dianna Agron and/or Lea Michele - Already in the gayest show around and very chummy with each other.

And if turns out to be one from the boys' side, then this is my shortlist:
1. Jake Gyllenhaal
2. Ryan Seacrest
3. Zachery Quinto
4. Wentworth Miller
5. Kevin Spacey

Of course, there is also the chance, that it's someone we've never even remotely considered, and then I'll really be chocked... and yet so very delighted as well.

UPDATE: LindSam on Loveline audio

Here's a working link to the LindSam audio - the one from AfterEllen couldn't handle all the traffic. ;o)

Listen to the FULL interview directly from Loveline's website here

Just find the September 21st audio link called "Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson call the show" - it's still the first link as this post is being made.

Happy to help,

LindSam confirms romance and Aiken is [officially] out

A lot has been said about Lindsay Lohan's way of dealing with the "rumours" of her being in a romantic relationship with Samantha Ronson. Now, I can understand and (at least in theory) respect the fact that as long as she hasn't confirmed anything, then it would technically be "outing her", when you report on their relationship.
However, she has done nothing to hide their relationship or her feelings, and has done everything short of saying "Yep, I'm gay". So why is it that when it's a same-sex relationship, then we simply have to have this verbal confirmation? I think it's just plain stupid, and LindSam have handled it all in a great way, which Sarah Warn of AfterEllen has written a great piece on here - oh yes, I do adore the entire concept and execution of the AfterEllen concept.
Anyway, all those in need of the verbal confirmation now have it! :o) Lindsay Lohan has now openly talked about their relationship live on the radio via phone in by stating that they've been together for "A very long time", when asked directly about their relationship (don't take my word for it, you can hear it here).
Again, I'll just point you in the direction of AfterEllen for the full story.
Lindsay truly makes me feel proud for her and the way she handled everything with the press throughout the rumours and constant speculation about her very public feelings. You rock! :o)

All smiles,
- GayGirl

P.S. I don't mean to diminish Clay Aiken's "Yes, I'm gay" statement on the cover of People Magazine, but it was hardly a surprise, and while Lindsay hasn't been hiding, then he really has been very coy about the "gay issue". I will however give him due respect, for coming out with his son in his arms, and attracting focus to gay parents. AfterElton (yes, I love that site too, and I LOVE gay guys, so I'll be sure to touch back on that topic soon) has the full story.

How about LindSam?

Okay, let's get to it... I can hardly keep avoiding it, and why should I? As a GayGirl I have been keeping an eye on the Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson stories, and something has been puzzling me lately; We have LiLo and SamRon, but they still haven't really gotten a combined name like Brangelina or TomKat, sooo...
How about LindSam?

I like it... I'm using it!

Also, regarding the question of "Are they even together?" Well, if they were two people of the opposite sex, then people wouldn't need the confirmation of anyone having to come out or describe the nature of their relationship. And really, isn't it a positive thing, that Lindsay treats this like any other realtionship? I mean, she wouldn't give a press conference or send out a public statement confirming that she was dating some guy or got a new friend (of any sex) either.

And in ANY case, whether they're together or not (which, for the record, I absolutely think they are), they do seem very happy and everything has just gotten better for both Lindsay Lohan's career and her overall behaviour, so I can't see that the relationship is bad in any way. I have high hopes for the future of LindSam and hope they stay on track in every way. :o)

Feelin' the love,
- GayGirl

P.S. If they are a couple that doesn't even mean Lindsay views herself as a lesbian, and therefore asking her to "come out" is a bit much. Maybe they just fell in love and are happy together, and they certainly aren't hiding how happy they are. Can't we just appreciate that? I can. And I do.

There can be only one

No, I'm not talking about The Highlander (though I admit, I do like the movie and ADORE the song "Who wants to live forever" by Queen). I'm talking about Ellen, sooo...

If I say Ellen, you say "Which one?"... Then you truly are among the uninitiated! But not to fear, I will teach you. There is only one Ellen... Ellen DeGeneres!

She was willing to throw herself out there. She may not have been a HUGE star back then, but she did have her own hit show, came out in a MAJOR way and she paved the way for many. She also took the heat and backlash (perfectly illustrated in her show "The Beginning", which is a MUST-SEE and should be in your collection).

I remember being a wee GayGirl. Probably not really knowing I was gay, but definitely knowing I was different - and that I felt more for the women in the movies than the men. Or rather, I wanted to be the leading man. No, not actually really BE him, but in order to get the leading lady. ;o)
Anyway, I watched "Ellen" (the original sitcom), before she came out, and immediately felt a connection to this hysterically funny woman, who nearly made me pee in my pants from laughing... several times. I pretty much knew I was "a Gay", when Ellen did come out, but it still made a huge impact on me. This was also because it was around the time I had started searching for gay movies and books, and here she was just being gay EVERYWHERE, and suddenly I didn't have to look for it anymore. Also, it was around the time I had my first girlfriend, and so in every way, being gay had just become much more "real" somehow.

In any case, I ADORE Ellen... and like Elvis, Madonna og Cher, there is NO need for the last name (okay, only the first one actually uses a last name, but still). If I mean another Ellen, then I'll be sure to include that Ellen's last name, m'kay?!
Now... Go watch Ellen's talkshow - you may even catch a glimpse of the wonderful Portia de Rossi. ;o)
